7 Days of Nature

#NatureChallengePhotography

That's the hashtag and I was nominated by a friend to share Nature related pictures of Malawi over a period of seven days. It's a great way to showcase Malawi and what it has to offer...it is also a bit challenging LOL Can you imagine me desperately going through my gallery trying to find a nature related picture out of the 317 similar looking selfies in there.. (-_-) I gave one of my girlfriends a heads up about nominating her and she had a similar panicky reaction (only girls LOL).

Day 1:

A beautiful sunset in Mulanje -  home to the Island in the sky, Mulanje Mountain which is in the Southern region of Malawi. This photo was taken from one of the gardens at Kara O'Mula which is situated at the base of the Mountain. The maximum elevation of 3,002 m at its highest point, Sapitwa Peak.

Day 2:

A canoe trip on  Bua River inside Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. My first lesson in canoeing was on this trip and on this river...I was soaked at the end of that ride but ecstatic :) all thanks to Tongole Wilderness Lodge. I would say this is one of my favorite places in the country...so peaceful, beautiful...just wonderful!

Day 3

One of the oldest trees in Ntchisi Rain Forest. Kim and I just had to climb this old fella
😃
This is one of the last  indigenous Rain Forests in Malawi. Had the opportunity of going on an early morning forest hike...the hunger I felt after that was too real but Ntchisi Forest Lodge knew exactly what to expect and they served us breakfast fit for Queens hehe

Day 4

This is Mangochi, a shot taken from the Lake capturing the Conforzi Lake House - it's as if the house wants to hide behind the trees surrounding it

I looove this image. Staying in this house made me feel like I was back in 1950 and everybody loves a #ThrowBack every now and then...make you wanna stay a couple of days to soak in the Sun on that beautiful beach.

Day 5
One of the water holes inside Lengwe National Park down in Chikhwawa. No animals spotted on this picture...but maybe if you look hard enough. Lengwe National Park lies 75km from Blantyre in the lower shire valley. Lengwe is home to the Nyala Antelope which is indigenous only to this park in Malawi. This normally shy creature is a frequent visitor to Nyala Lodge which is inside the Park.

‪#‎Beautiful‬ is the word

Day 6:

I took this picture when we were stuck in a motor boat for over an hour on the Shire River in Chikhwawa. The sun was setting on us and it was 5 pm. The water levels had gone down and we were at a shallow point in the middle of the river so the only hope for us at that point was the rising of the water levels...this was some time in August so you can imagine - no rains! The water wasn't rising anytime soon and the muddy waters at that point were getting worse by the minute. 4 girls and 1 guy, no land in sight and the only thing we had was each other, the boat and the excellent mobile network on our phones (believe me, the mobile reception out on the river was amazing and it was a plus that our phone batteries were doing good). We tried propelling our boat back to where we came from but somehow we ended up turning the boat which meant we were now going in the opposite direction - down the river! We ditched those oars and opted to remain in that very spot. Surely we'd be missed and people would come looking for us - hopefully before the crocs that were sliding into the water from the river banks got to us first...this was after all The Shire River, their habitat! Our Guide offered to jump into the water to push us onto deeper waters so we could try starting our engine again - we flat out refused! No one was in the mood to witness a scene straight out of Nat Geo Wild! Long story short...I'm here today typing this. We made it!

Day 7

When we have no drought tendencies in our weather and the rains are falling faithfully, this is the view I normally wake up to every single day - trees, grass, likhubula stream, sun rays and Michiru Mountain in the back - tranquility!

Nature has a lot to show us everyday..we just have to stop and listen / look.

Let's Cook - Chisoso Chotendera (Traditional African Vegetable)

Hello everyone, it has been a minute. Got caught up in work but I'm back now. Today we will be cooking Chisoso Chotendera, this is basically Blackjack cooked with groundnut flour. It is delicious! My Mum says back in the village when she was growing up, this was considered meat - at least to her...not sure it would be the same for me LOL meat is meat. Blackjack,  Bidens pilosa  is a cosmopolitan weed, originating from South America and common in all tropical and subtropical areas of the world. In Africa  Bidens pilosa  is recorded as a weed in many countries and it is likely to occur in all countries, including the Indian Ocean islands. It is reported as a vegetable or potherb among others in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’ Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Black jack as a vegetable and medicinal plant is frequently found in small quantities on local markets. The young plants ...

The Boyfriend List

I was going through a journal of mine when I came across something I wrote some few years ago. I had titled it "My Boyfriend List" and when I read through it, I laughed at some of the things I wrote but some of things, well, I'd still maintain. I think everyone has their own list of someone they would like to be with. Whether you take the time to write it down or it's just there in your head, but you still have it. Here goes mine: Christian. Non negotiable. Tall. Or at least my height Someone who respects me Smart. I like brainy guys. Like very brainy guys #Nerds. Something about nerds... Funny. I want someone who can crack me up, who has a sense of humor. Employed / Looking for a job. Hardworking He needs to like children. Someone who dresses well. Thank you. Eats well. I understand some diseases are hereditary but to actually go looking for them is just plain ridiculous. Someone who takes care of himself. Personal hygiene. Someone who understands sarca...

Shower Hour

I love my shower hour. I love spending my 30/40 minutes in the bath and when I wake up every morning and there's electricity and running water(can't have both at the same time for too long here in Malawi), I always look forward to that mini spa. Getting on my Mother's nerves has never been easier. My Mother doesn't understand why I take forever in the bathroom so she will come banging on the door after some 30 minutes of my disappearance, what is it that I actually do in there? I am a woman and should observe how fast and well I do my things - that is how she was when she was younger and still is. I should learn. Mom *impatient voice* "Are you not done in there?" Me ".......did you want to come in? I'm almost done Mum, will come out in 5 minutes.. " (In reality this 5 minutes will be some 15 minutes more) This is how I normally look at my time in the bathroom even on a work day Even my play list is more interesting in the ...
