#NatureChallengePhotography
That's the hashtag and I was nominated by a friend to share Nature related pictures of Malawi over a period of seven days. It's a great way to showcase Malawi and what it has to offer...it is also a bit challenging LOL Can you imagine me desperately going through my gallery trying to find a nature related picture out of the 317 similar looking selfies in there.. (-_-) I gave one of my girlfriends a heads up about nominating her and she had a similar panicky reaction (only girls LOL).
Day 1:
A beautiful sunset in Mulanje - home to the Island in the sky, Mulanje Mountain which is in the Southern region of Malawi. This photo was taken from one of the gardens at Kara O'Mula which is situated at the base of the Mountain. The maximum elevation of 3,002 m at its highest point, Sapitwa Peak.
Day 2:
A canoe trip on Bua River inside Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. My first lesson in canoeing was on this trip and on this river...I was soaked at the end of that ride but ecstatic :) all thanks to Tongole Wilderness Lodge. I would say this is one of my favorite places in the country...so peaceful, beautiful...just wonderful!
Day 3

One of the oldest trees in Ntchisi Rain Forest. Kim and I just had to climb this old fella
😃
This is one of the last indigenous Rain Forests in Malawi. Had the opportunity of going on an early morning forest hike...the hunger I felt after that was too real but Ntchisi Forest Lodge knew exactly what to expect and they served us breakfast fit for Queens hehe
Day 4

This is Mangochi, a shot taken from the Lake capturing the Conforzi Lake House - it's as if the house wants to hide behind the trees surrounding it

I looove this image. Staying in this house made me feel like I was back in 1950 and everybody loves a #ThrowBack every now and then...make you wanna stay a couple of days to soak in the Sun on that beautiful beach.
Day 5

One of the water holes inside Lengwe National Park down in Chikhwawa. No animals spotted on this picture...but maybe if you look hard enough. Lengwe National Park lies 75km from Blantyre in the lower shire valley. Lengwe is home to the Nyala Antelope which is indigenous only to this park in Malawi. This normally shy creature is a frequent visitor to Nyala Lodge which is inside the Park.

#Beautiful is the word
Day 6:
I took this picture when we were stuck in a motor boat for over an hour on the Shire River in Chikhwawa. The sun was setting on us and it was 5 pm. The water levels had gone down and we were at a shallow point in the middle of the river so the only hope for us at that point was the rising of the water levels...this was some time in August so you can imagine - no rains! The water wasn't rising anytime soon and the muddy waters at that point were getting worse by the minute. 4 girls and 1 guy, no land in sight and the only thing we had was each other, the boat and the excellent mobile network on our phones (believe me, the mobile reception out on the river was amazing and it was a plus that our phone batteries were doing good). We tried propelling our boat back to where we came from but somehow we ended up turning the boat which meant we were now going in the opposite direction - down the river! We ditched those oars and opted to remain in that very spot. Surely we'd be missed and people would come looking for us - hopefully before the crocs that were sliding into the water from the river banks got to us first...this was after all The Shire River, their habitat! Our Guide offered to jump into the water to push us onto deeper waters so we could try starting our engine again - we flat out refused! No one was in the mood to witness a scene straight out of Nat Geo Wild! Long story short...I'm here today typing this. We made it!

Day 7

When we have no drought tendencies in our weather and the rains are falling faithfully, this is the view I normally wake up to every single day - trees, grass, likhubula stream, sun rays and Michiru Mountain in the back - tranquility!
Nature has a lot to show us everyday..we just have to stop and listen / look.
